Lumosity alternatives: free brain games you can play in your browser

October 7, 2026 · By the Mindym team

Lumosity is one of the best-known brain-game apps, with dozens of short games and a large library built up over more than a decade. Its free plan is deliberately limited, though, and you need an account before you can play. If that's why you're looking around, here's how the options compare.

We make Mindym, one of the alternatives below, so read this with that in mind. We've kept the comparison to features you can check yourself. Facts about other apps were checked in October 2026 and can change, so look at each app's own page before you decide.

What you get with Lumosity for free

  • Three games a day on the free Basic plan, rotating daily. Premium unlocks the full library and personalised workouts.
  • An account first. You sign up with an email address before playing.
  • Web, iPhone and Android. Lumosity runs at lumosity.com and in its mobile apps.

Lumosity is a good fit if you want a very large game library and are happy to pay for it.

What to look for in an alternative

People who move on from Lumosity usually want one of these:

  1. Play without signing up. Try it first, decide later.
  2. More than three free games a day.
  3. Something to solve, not just react to. Logic puzzles give a different kind of satisfaction from fast reaction games.
  4. No health promises. Be wary of any app that says it will prevent memory loss. In 2016 Lumosity's maker settled with the US Federal Trade Commission over advertising that said its games could delay age-related decline, and the honest position is still that brain games are for fun and practice.

Mindym

Mindym is a daily brain workout that runs in any browser. You can start playing without an account.

  • A short daily workout: three adaptive brain games picked for you each day, across nine areas such as memory, attention, speed and reasoning.
  • Seven daily logic puzzles: Crowns, Mini Sudoku, Trail, Halves, Quilt, Meander and a Mini Crossword. Everyone gets the same puzzles, each with exactly one solution, and you can read step-by-step solutions once a day is over.
  • Free: the workout, all seven puzzles, streaks and friends cost nothing, as do nine of the nineteen games. Premium adds the rest.
  • No ads and no ad trackers.
  • An honest scorecard that says when it doesn't have enough data yet, and makes no health claims.

The trade-off: Mindym has fewer games than Lumosity, and its iPhone and Android apps aren't out yet, though the web version works on phones.
