Puzzles like LinkedIn's Queens, Tango, Zip and Patches

October 7, 2026 · By the Mindym team

LinkedIn's daily games, Queens, Tango, Zip, Patches and Mini Sudoku among them, have turned a lot of people into daily puzzlers. The catch is that there's one of each a day, and they're over in a couple of minutes. If you want another round of the same kind of thinking, these puzzle types are much older than LinkedIn's versions, and there are plenty of places to play them.

We make Mindym, whose puzzles are below. Mindym isn't affiliated with LinkedIn, and LinkedIn's game names belong to LinkedIn; we use them only to describe similar puzzle types.

If you like Queens, try Crowns

Queens is a version of a classic puzzle type called Star Battle: place one piece in every row, column and coloured region, with no two touching.

Crowns follows the same rules. Put one crown in every row, column and colour, and never let two crowns touch, even diagonally. Start with the smallest region: when a colour has only one row or column left, everything else in that line can be ruled out. Read the full rules and techniques, or look at a solved example step by step.

If you like Tango, try Halves

Tango is a binary puzzle, a type also known as Takuzu: fill a grid with two symbols so each row and column is balanced, with signs between some squares saying whether neighbours match.

Halves uses circles and triangles: three of each in every row and column, never three alike in a line, with = and × signs between squares. Two matching symbols side by side always force the squares on either end. How to play Halves.

If you like Zip, try Trail

Zip is a path puzzle: draw one line through the numbers in order, filling every square.

Trail works the same way. Start at 1, pass through every number in order, and fill every cell exactly once. The trick is not to cut straight to the next number: corners and edges have to be swept on the way, or they're left stranded. How to play Trail.

If you like Patches, try Quilt

Patches is a grid-division puzzle in the Shikaku family: split the grid into rectangles, each holding one clue that gives its size or shape.

Quilt has the same idea. Each patch holds exactly one clue; the number is its size and the outline is its shape. Look for clues that fit only one way, or squares that only one clue can reach. How to play Quilt.

If you like Mini Sudoku, try Mini Sudoku

Sudoku on a 6×6 grid is a puzzle type of its own, and Mindym has one every day too. Mini Sudoku: fill in 1 to 6 so every row, column and 2×3 box uses each digit once.

Two more to try

  • Meander is a word search where the words bend through neighbouring letters, and every letter belongs to exactly one word.
  • The Mini Crossword is a small criss-cross with general-knowledge clues.

How Mindym's puzzles work
